2022 in Review

Ok, so quick recap of our 2022 of pickleball! We traveled A LOT and played A LOT of pb

-Naples tourney in Florida in February (left on the last flight out of Indy, our kids doing elearning with my parents, lol) my first tournament after my ACL surgery. Loved it, venue was great

-Spring break, we have a pb court in front of our condo and we play nearly every day

-20th wedding anniversary trip to vegas that included the MJ show, hiking, kayaking the Colorado, the Grand Canyon, and a whole lot of pb at Sunset Park (and of course In N Out). During these long dark winters, We would take an Alligent flight to Vegas for a weekend to play at Sunset Park in the sunshine!

-Beer City, we left 4 kids at home and took our oldest, super fun, Matt Carpenter was part of that (Circle K for dinner story)

-Nationals

-Pictona

That’s a lot of travel for a family of 7

Also in 2022, we launched this podcast too, which has been so fun.

Abby was officially IPTPA Level II Certified in early fall

We joined Pickleball Rocks as Growth Pros

I quit my job to homeschool a kid

We got a puppy

We managed to hopefully love on, invest in, manage, feed and clothe five daughters which is no easy task haha.

Things Abby improved on in 2022: I think my backhand got better. I was pretty intentional about using it a lot. I got better with spin. As someone without any racket experience I had to learn top spin, slice and inside out. I think that takes your game another level (not that I’m great, but I learned). I also got a lot better at watching my opponent’s paddle to anticipate where they are going to hit the ball. I think higher level is watching my opponents hips but one thing at a time!

Matt, how did you improve in 2022?

How Abby would like to improve in 2023: I’d like to be more consistent with my dinks. I’m struggling right now with my backhand dink. I would also like to get better at top spin, from the baseline and at the net, just a more aggressive hit.
