Welcome!! How is life crazy? Tell the story of Elinor telling someone I was taking her to a bar for her bday when I had said we were going to have an ice cream bar for her.
Matt, you’re playing in a tournament coming up this weekend and I know you’re really excited about it– can you tell us a little bit about it?
Abby: I heard this quote and it cut me like a knife.
“Your skill isn’t measured by how well you can play, it’s measured by how consistently you play at that level”
Ohh boy! Moments of brilliance, moments of abject horror, haha. So while my DUPR is a 4.4, maybe I’m a solid 3.5?
There are days I’m hitting all the balls out and hitting all the out balls, that alone is a skill set that takes you to the next level.
How do we play more consistently?
Matt and I have been drilling some
I thought then I’d be awesome, turns out drilling like 4 times doesn’t skyrocket my game. Maybe I should be more patient.
I’m hearing other people talking about how they are drilling too. I love that people are getting more into it.
1hr Simone cooperative drill layout, I found it online, I’ll link it in the show notes, but it’s fun, a good workout, and works the entire court. I loved it. Matt was grumpy.
What makes someone consistent? Is there a personality trait? Practice? Both?
Is this similar to “good players make great shots, great players make good shots”
Seems like a mindset, ability to dig deep, not being a head case.
Matt has three things to share about the right mindset:
Be a goldfish… but learn from your mistakes
FIDO- Forget it and Drive on (Austin Dillon- Nascar racer heard Lt. Patrick McCleary III speak)
My favorite quote- adapted from Rory McIllroy: Don’t let your shots affect your attitude. Let your attitude affect your shots. Be positive.
Abby talk about Visualization and the Tennis Book
Maybe your level of sports experience in high school and college.
What adversity have you seen in life.
How old are you? (I’ve mentioned I like playing 19+ bc the kids are head cases and I’ve seen too much to be a head case)
